Publication Ethics

Journal of Science Education Research and Innovation (JOSERI), published by Konsorsium Pengetahuan Innoscientia, upholds the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing. The journal is committed to ensuring the integrity of the publication process by following ethical guidelines for all parties involved: authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and the editor-in-chief.

Author Responsibilities

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are original and free from plagiarism. Proper citation of the work of others is mandatory. Manuscripts that exhibit significant similarity to previously published work will be rejected.
  • Authorship: All individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research must be listed as authors. Conversely, no one who has not contributed to the work should be included as an author.
  • Data Accuracy: Authors must ensure the accuracy of the data presented in their work. Misleading or false information is unethical and unacceptable.
  • Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest: Authors are required to disclose any financial or personal relationships that may influence the results or interpretation of their work.
  • Ethical Research Practices: For studies involving human or animal subjects, authors must ensure that ethical standards have been met, including obtaining approval from relevant ethical committees.
  • Multiple Submissions: Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. Submitting the same research to multiple journals constitutes unethical behavior.

Reviewer Responsibilities

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat the manuscript they receive for review as a confidential document. They should not share or discuss the manuscript with others, except with the editor.
  • Objectivity and Fairness: Reviewers must provide an objective, constructive, and unbiased assessment of the manuscript. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers are expected to complete their review within the time frame agreed upon with the journal. If they are unable to do so, they should inform the editor promptly.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should disclose any conflicts of interest that might affect their objectivity in evaluating the manuscript and should decline to review if there is a potential bias.

Editorial Board Member Responsibilities

  • Fair Decision-Making: Editorial board members are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are evaluated based on academic merit alone, without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy.
  • Confidentiality: Editorial board members must protect the confidentiality of the review process and not disclose any details about the manuscript or the review to anyone outside the review process.
  • Conflict of Interest: Board members should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest or personal connections with the authors.
  • Guidance and Feedback: Board members are expected to provide guidance to authors and reviewers when necessary, ensuring that ethical standards are maintained throughout the publication process.

Editor-in-Chief Responsibilities

  • Final Decision: The editor-in-chief is responsible for making the final decision on whether a manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected. This decision must be based on the importance, originality, and clarity of the manuscript, as well as its relevance to the journal’s focus and scope.
  • Upholding Ethical Standards: The editor-in-chief must ensure that all aspects of the publication process adhere to the journal’s ethical guidelines and prevent any instances of malpractice.
  • Addressing Misconduct: In cases of suspected or confirmed research misconduct, the editor-in-chief, in collaboration with the editorial board, will take appropriate actions, which may include publishing corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern as necessary.
  • Maintaining the Integrity of the Peer Review Process: The editor-in-chief must ensure the confidentiality and fairness of the peer review process and take immediate action if any breach of ethical standards is detected.
