Allegation of Research Misconducts

Research misconduct encompasses actions like fabricating or falsifying data, manipulating citations, and committing plagiarism throughout the research lifecycle, from inception to publication. Individuals involved in such unethical practices are accountable for preserving the accuracy and integrity of scientific records.

When suspicions of misconduct arise, the editors and editorial board of Kabelo: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat adhere to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines to handle these issues impartially. This process involves a thorough investigation by the editors. Manuscripts confirmed to involve misconduct are immediately rejected. If misconduct is detected in a published paper, it will be retracted, and the retraction will be linked to the original publication.

Addressing allegations starts with verifying their legitimacy and determining whether they constitute research misconduct. This also includes examining potential conflicts of interest from those making the allegations.

In cases of suspected scientific misconduct or other major research discrepancies, the corresponding author is notified and asked to provide a detailed explanation on behalf of all co-authors. This may necessitate further reviews or consultations with experts, such as statistical reviewers. If misconduct is unlikely, publishing clarifications or additional analyses, typically as letters to the editor with correction notices, may suffice.

Institutions bear the responsibility of thoroughly investigating claims of scientific misconduct. Authors, journals, and institutions collectively ensure the accuracy of scientific records. Kabelo: Jurnal Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat is dedicated to maintaining the validity and integrity of the scientific record by addressing misconduct concerns and implementing necessary actions such as corrections or retractions.

The process for handling research misconduct allegations follows the guidelines provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), available at https://publicationethics.org/misconduct.
