Allegation of Research Misconducts

Research misconduct includes actions such as data fabrication, data falsification, citation manipulation, and plagiarism, which can occur at any phase of the research process, from its initiation to publication. Those involved in such practices are responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of scientific documentation.

In instances where misconduct is suspected, the editors and editorial board of JPMI: Jurnal Perberdayaan Masyarakat Inklusif follow the procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to ensure a fair resolution. This involves a thorough investigation by the editorial team. If misconduct is confirmed, the manuscript will be rejected immediately. Should the misconduct be identified in a published article, that article will be retracted, with a retraction notice linked to the original publication.

The process for addressing allegations begins with validating their authenticity and determining whether they indeed constitute research misconduct. This process also includes evaluating any potential conflicts of interest from those reporting the allegations.

If concerns about scientific misconduct or significant research discrepancies arise, the corresponding author will be contacted and requested to provide a comprehensive explanation on behalf of all co-authors. This may lead to additional reviews or consultations with experts, including statistical reviewers. If the likelihood of misconduct is low, publishing clarifications or additional analyses, typically in the form of letters to the editor with correction notices, may be sufficient.

Institutions are responsible for thoroughly investigating claims of scientific misconduct. Authors, journals, and institutions share the responsibility of maintaining the accuracy of scientific records. JPMI: Jurnal Perberdayaan Masyarakat Inklusif is committed to ensuring the validity and integrity of the scientific record by addressing concerns of misconduct and taking necessary actions, such as issuing corrections or retractions.

The handling of research misconduct allegations is guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and their guidelines are available at https://publicationethics.org/misconduct.
