Ethical Clearance
JENDELA (Jurnal Pengetahuan dan Kolaborasi Ilmiah) is committed to ensuring that all published community service activities are conducted ethically and responsibly. Authors are responsible for complying with applicable ethical standards, institutional policies, and national regulations related to community engagement and the protection of human participants.
Ethical Approval
Ethical clearance is required when the community service activity involves:
- Human participants who provide personal, sensitive, or identifiable information.
- Collection of health-related, psychological, or behavioral data.
- Vulnerable populations, including children, older adults, persons with disabilities, or other protected groups.
- Medical or health interventions.
- Activities that may involve physical, psychological, social, or legal risks to participants.
In such cases, authors should obtain approval from the appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB), Research Ethics Committee (REC), or other authorized ethics committee before conducting the activity.
The manuscript should clearly state:
- The name of the ethics committee granting approval.
- The ethical approval or reference number (if applicable).
- The date of approval.
- Confirmation that the activity complied with relevant ethical guidelines and regulations.
Informed Consent
When community service activities involve human participants, authors must obtain informed consent from participants before collecting any data, photographs, audio recordings, videos, or other identifiable information.
Participants should be informed about:
- The objectives of the activity.
- The procedures involved.
- Any potential risks or benefits.
- Their right to decline participation or withdraw at any time.
- How their personal information will be protected.
For participants who are minors or legally unable to provide consent, permission must be obtained from a parent, legal guardian, or other authorized representative.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Authors must protect the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of all participants. Personal identifiers should be removed or anonymized unless explicit written permission has been obtained for disclosure.
Photographs or other identifiable images of participants should only be published with appropriate consent.
Community Service Activities Not Requiring Ethical Clearance
Many community service activities—such as educational workshops, public training, technology dissemination, environmental campaigns, entrepreneurship assistance, or community empowerment programs—may not require formal ethical approval if they:
- Do not involve research on human subjects.
- Do not collect sensitive personal or health-related data.
- Do not expose participants to more than minimal risk.
- Comply with applicable institutional and legal requirements.
When formal ethical approval is not required, authors should include a statement in the manuscript explaining that ethical clearance was not necessary due to the nature of the activity.
Editorial Policy
The Editorial Board reserves the right to request evidence of ethical approval or informed consent at any stage of the review or publication process. Failure to provide appropriate documentation, when required, may result in rejection of the manuscript or withdrawal of the publication.
By submitting a manuscript to JENDELA (Jurnal Pengetahuan dan Kolaborasi Ilmiah), authors confirm that all ethical requirements applicable to their community service activities have been fulfilled and that the rights, safety, and welfare of participants have been adequately protected.
