Allegation of Research Misconducts
Research misconduct encompasses actions such as fabricating or falsifying data, citation manipulation, and plagiarism, all of which can occur at any stage of the research process, from inception to publication. Individuals involved in these practices are accountable for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of scientific documentation.
In cases of suspected misconduct, the editors and editorial board of Jumara: Jurnal Masyarakat Beragama adhere to the procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to address the issue equitably. This includes a thorough investigation by the editorial team. Manuscripts confirmed to involve misconduct will be immediately rejected. If the misconduct is discovered in a published article, that article will be retracted, with a retraction notice linked to the original publication.
The process of addressing allegations begins with verifying their validity and determining whether they indeed constitute research misconduct. Additionally, this process involves assessing any potential conflicts of interest from those raising the allegations.
If concerns regarding scientific misconduct or other significant research discrepancies arise, the corresponding author will be notified and asked to provide a comprehensive explanation on behalf of all co-authors. This may result in further reviews or consultations with experts, including statistical reviewers. If the likelihood of misconduct is minimal, publishing clarifications or additional analyses, typically as letters to the editor with correction notices, may suffice.
Institutions bear the responsibility of thoroughly investigating claims of scientific misconduct. Authors, journals, and institutions collectively share the duty to maintain the accuracy of scientific records. Jumara: Jurnal Masyarakat Beragama is dedicated to preserving the validity and integrity of the scientific record by addressing misconduct concerns and taking necessary actions, such as issuing corrections or retractions.
The handling of research misconduct allegations is guided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), whose guidelines are available at https://publicationethics.org/misconduct.
