Abstract

Teaching materials for the History of Islamic Education course used in many Teacher Education for Islamic Elementary Schools (PGMI) study programs, including at Institut Kariman Wirayudha Sumenep, remain generic and oriented toward national or international Islamic educational history without adequately incorporating Madurese local wisdom, so that pre-service MI teachers remain unfamiliar with the historical roots of Islamic educational institutions and figures in their own region and risk an erosion of students' cultural identity amid globalization, while studies specifically addressing Madurese local wisdom as course material for History of Islamic Education at the higher-education level remain very limited. This study aims to develop Madurese local-wisdom-based History of Islamic Education teaching materials that are valid, practical, and effective in strengthening the cultural identity of PGMI students at Institut Kariman Wirayudha Sumenep. The study used a Research and Development approach with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), involving the lecturer of the History of Islamic Education course, a content expert, a media expert, and a language expert, as well as second-semester PGMI students as trial subjects, with data collected through interviews, observation, questionnaires, and documentation, analyzed using descriptive qualitative and quantitative techniques. Results show the material obtained an average expert validation score of 4.17, categorized valid, with a practicality level of 91% among lecturers and an average of 88% among students, categorized highly practical, accompanied by improved understanding and positive attitudes toward the local history of Islamic education in Madura. This study concludes that Madurese local-wisdom-based History of Islamic Education teaching materials are feasible as contextual learning resources in PGMI study programs.
